When SRD Grant Recipients Will Get June Appeal Decisions

It has been just four days since the new Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant appeal website launched. During its first week, the website has seen more than half-a-million appeals lodged.

The Department of Social Development (DSD) has announced that more than 500 000 SRD grant appeals were submitted this week. The total number of appeals received before midday on Wednesdays stood at a staggering 563 031 appeals.

Director at the Department of social development John Mokoele has revealed that SRD grant clients will have to wait around one month to receive decisions on their SRD reconsideration requests.

He said, “The provisions provide for us to give outcomes within a 90-day period but what we are trying to do is that by the last week of July meaning from the 25th of July we’ll start giving outcomes.”

Mokoele says that many individuals that submitted appeals have alternative income, and have answered a question that made them ineligible for the grant or has appeared in one of the governmental databases.

Clients are reminded that they have a right to appeal a rejection determination by the agency. Unsuccessful clients must now submit SRD reconsideration requests to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).

These appeals must be done via the ITSAA’s SRD grant appeals website at https://srd.dsd.gov.za
