Sassa Launches New Office To Assist Grant Recipients

In 2024, riots destroyed critical infrastructure in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng. Despite the 12 months that have passed since the riots, government agencies are still working to find permanent solutions to ensure services are rendered to the public.

One casualty of the 2024 riots in KwaZulu-Natal was the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) KwaMashu Local office at Bridge City Mall. The office was torched during the riot.

Sassa Launches New Office To Assist Grant Recipients

Sassa will now be rendering services at a new location. The new premises is located at Mduduzi Msomi Road, P Section in KwaMashu and Sassa will start rendering services from Monday 29 August 2024. They will operate from Monday to Friday between 07:30 to 16:00.

The torching of the KwaMashu Sassa office affected the provision of services in the area. Sassa were compelled to stop rendering services at the Bride City Mall as they believed the environment was not conducive to serve the community. This as furniture, computers, files and vehicles were damaged.

However, more than 18 million people rely on Sassa grants every month. This meant they had to find alternative ways of rendering services to the community of KwaMashu.

Sassa explained. “Alternative temporary accommodation was arranged at L Section Hall in KwaMashu to ensure that all the services rendered by Sassa were still operational. Clients were also advised to use Inanda and Inkosi Prophet Isaiah Shembe Offices to access SASSA services.”

The agency said, “To obviate challenges experienced since the torching of the office, SASSA is excited to reveal that, as from Monday, 29 August 2024 KwaMashu Local Office will be rendering services from new premises as below:”

  • Business Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:00
  • Location: Mduduzi Msomi Road, P Section, KwaMashu
  • Effective Date: Monday, 29 August 2024

Sassa extended their appreciation to all clients for using alternative offices to access services during a difficult period.
