Simply put, Hospitality is the relationship between a guest and a host. Studying Consumer Science or any Hospitality Management-related programme prepares you for a wide variety of careers in different sectors of hospitality and this could potentially offer you exciting global opportunities.
Hospitality is a very dynamic and ever-evolving industry that has many fields such as hotel management, real estate, restaurant experience, executive chefs, events, tourism and health and wellness.
At Unisa, they offer a wide range of programmes for prospective students to choose from. A qualification in hospitality will provide students with skills, knowledge, understanding and competence in any food, hospitality services, nutrition, clothing and textiles with business management skills to assist students with setting up their own businesses, acting as advisors or facilitators or working in the retail sector.
Unisa offers an NQF level 7 undergraduate programme in Consumer Science Hospitality Management.
Should students wish to enrol in the Bachelor of Consumer Sciences Hospitality Management programme at Unisa, any of the following points are valid for minimum admissions:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) or equivalent with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and 40% in Mathematics or Technical Mathematics or 60% in Mathematical Literacy.
- Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and with at least an E symbol on HG or a D symbol on SG in Mathematics.
- An appropriate Higher Certificate that satisfies the Language and Mathematics requirements.
Applicants who do not meet the above-mentioned requirements are advised to consider applying for a lower level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
