Sassa Begins R350 Grant Reconsideration Payments

After almost a year of waiting, beneficiaries of the R350 grant could finally have access to their money. This follows an announcement stating that the process that was preventing reconsideration request payments has been concluded.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that R350 grant payments that were related to reconsideration requests from the previous iteration of the grant will now take place.  The previous iteration of the grant began in August 2024 and came to an end in March 2024.

The importance of the R350 grant cannot be understated and is a crucial support mechanism for around 10 million people. A recent study found that 90% of the grants recipients used the money to purchase food.

The agency said, “Sassa has been dealing with the thorny issue of the reconsideration issue since last year August 2024. The process has now ended and those who qualify will start receiving their payments this week. Check your bank notification for the payment.”

Beneficiaries of the R350 grant are reminded that they can no longer collect their money from the Post Office. This is as the post office no longer distributes the R350 grant.

Grant beneficiaries have the option to collect their money from their nearest supermarket such as a Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer or USave store.

Sassa has assured clients that they will receive payments for all the months their reconsideration requests were successful.

The agency added, “The payments will not be done together, but will be done month by month. More than one payment may be made in a month, but no one will receive double payments in amount.”
