NSFAS Applications For Trimester 2 Is Open

If you are a TVET college student who has been curious as to when the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will open applications for the second trimester Trimester, then the wait is almost over as applications will open in just a few weeks.

TVET college students who have been waiting to submit their NSFAS application need not wait any longer. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has recently announced that 2024 applications for the second trimester will open on Wednesday 10 August 2024 and close 19 August 2024.

NSFAS applications for trimester 2 are being accepted as part of the bursary application cycle at TVET colleges all throughout South Africa.

NSFAS has advised students to apply online or through TVET college bursary offices. Students can submit their NSFAS applications using the methods below:

  1. Walk-in online application platform (super user)
  2. Students capture their application at their college computer lab
  3. Assistive capture application platform

The application will then be captured by TVET official on behalf of the student. When applying, students will be required to provide the following supporting documents:

  1. Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of the student
  2. Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of parent(s)/guardian/spouse
  3. Proof of income (where applicable) – student/parent(s)/guardian or spouse (not older than 3 months.
  4. SASSA recipients no proof of income required.

A student recognised as a vulnerable child (e.g. Orphan) must submit a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration Form completed by the social worker. Students with disabilities must complete and submit the Disability Annexure A form.

Once the application has been completed and submitted, NSFAS will process it and provide students with their application outcomes.

Students should visit the NSFAS website to track their applications. Those who have applied for NSFAS during the walk-in application period will not be required to fill out the NSFAS system access form. They will only need to send an email to [email protected] for their account to be re-activated.

NSFAS is a government bursary which funds the studies of disadvantaged South African students who wish to study at public universities or TVET colleges. The funding from NSFAS covers registration, tuition fees, accommodation, learning materials and transport and living allowances.
