New Gauteng School Admissions System Improved For Users
The application period for the 2024 online admissions for Grades 1 and 8 in Gauteng has opened. Gauteng Education has made a few new changes to the online system, to create a better experience for parents and caregivers submitting applications.
Parents and caregivers of learners in Gauteng schools have previously faced trouble with the online admissions portal, as it would not function well and therefore make it difficult for virtual applications to be submitted.
The Gauteng Department of Education has made an announcement that these issues are a thing of the past as the online system has improved to accommodate up to 40,000 users and up to 120,000 applications within an hour without crashing.
In an interview, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Minister Panyaza Lesufi said:
WE HAVE LINKED UP WITH MAJOR GOVERNMENT PORTALS, THE DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS, GPS SYSTEM, SO THAT PARENTS DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND TIME TYPING THEIR NAMES AND ADDRESSES.
However, Lesufi has also appealed to parents to submit the correct information and valid documents when following the five-step virtual application process.
When it comes to internet access, the department has confirmed that approximately 50 walk-in centres across 15 education districts in the province have officially opened this morning for parents and caregivers that need to access the online platform.
According to Gauteng Education, applications opened on 22 July 2024 and will close on 19 August 2024.
Parents and caregivers may also visit public libraries and community leaders, especially councilors, have been urged by the Education Department to help community members in this regard.
As part of the online application process, the adult applying for the learner will be required to provide an address.
Should the parent or caregiver wish to choose a school that is closer to their workplace, then it is best that the address used in the application be the work address. On the other hand, should the parent opt for a school closer to where they stay, the home address should be used?
