Will Sassa Pay Double This Month?

Sassa regularly experiences delays when it comes to R350 grant payments. These delays caused by a payment backlog in previous months may have recipients curious as to whether they will receive their due grant payments all at once, perhaps for more than a month.

Will Sassa Pay Double This Month?

As the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) continues to disburse Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments to qualifying applicants and beneficiaries, many of the agency’s beneficiaries have experienced delays due to payment backlogs. This then leaves the question of whether Sassa will process those pending grant payments within the same period.

Beneficiaries of the SRD grant have been told by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) that they would begin receiving payments in the middle of June 2024. They had been without their due R350 from Sassa for almost three months prior to this.

As soon as the bank details of all affected SRD grant applicants are confirmed, Sassa said they will proceed to remove unpaid balances from the previous cycle of the grant.

However, it is also just as important for impacted beneficiaries to note that Sassa stated that they will not make double payments for the previous month, particularly those prior to April of the current. They will still receive the grant payments due to them, just not all at once.

The payments will not be done together but will be done month by month. More than one payment may be made in a month, but no one will receive a double payment in amount.

Sassa added that until the backlog is cleared, they will process several R350 grant payments per month. They will continue making one SRD grant payment per beneficiary each month after the backlog has been cleared.
