NSFAS Applications For Semester 2 Close Today

There is a very short window of time left for students who are yet to submit their 2024 Second Semester NSFAS applications, as today marks their last chance to do so. It is therefore advised that they apply as soon as possible.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College students who are currently not funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), but would like to apply for funding are encouraged to apply before the scheme closes its application window for second-semester student funding today.

If you are among the students who require NSFAS funding but have not applied yet, you can follow the procedures listed below to submit your applications:

Submit your application through the Walk-in online application platform (superuser):

Students can capture their application at their college computer lab

Alternatively through the assistive capture application platform

The application will then be captured by a TVET official on behalf of the student

When applying students will be required to  provide the following supporting documents when submitting their applications:

  1. Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of the student
  2. Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of parent(s)/guardian/spouse
  3. Proof of income (where applicable) – student/parent(s)/guardian or spouse (not older than 3 months.
  4. SASSA recipients have no proof of income required.
  5. A student recognized as a vulnerable child (e.g. Orphan) must submit a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration Form completed by the Social worker

Students with disabilities must complete and submit the Disability Annexure A form.

Once the application has been completed, NSFAS will collect the application form and the supporting documents after the closing deadline.

Students who have applied for NSFAS during the walk-in application period will not be required to fill out the NSFAS system access form.

They will only need to send an email to [email protected] for their account to be re-activated. To qualify for student funding through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be a South African citizen.
  2. Can be a SASSA grant recipient.
  3. Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum.
  4. Persons with a disability whose combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  5. Applicants who first registered at university before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

NSFAS is a bursary scheme administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for South African students who would like to study in public universities or TVET colleges but lack the financial resources to do so and are unable to secure study loans, bank funding, or bursaries.
