Matric Rewrite Results Will Be Released Soon

In June, National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) candidates across the country sat for the mid-year matric rewrite examinations. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has released the date in which exam results will be made available.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) said the headcount for this year’s May/June 2024 matric rewrites was a total of 290 682.

There has been a slight increase in the number of candidates, compared to the 239 024 candidates who sat for this exam in 2024. It has been confirmed that exam results for this cohort will soon be released.

In a statement, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced:

The 2024 June NSC & SC results will be released on Wednesday, 3 August 2024.

It is said that candidates who wrote the exam and are waiting on their results may access their results at their writing centre, or alternatively by visiting the WCED website. The department has clarified that this link is specifically for exam candidates in the Western Cape.

Candidates that sat for this matric rewrite were both National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) candidates.

The difference between the two groups is that NSC candidates have written the exam either in 2024 or in previous years. On the other hand, SC candidates are individuals including adults that are over the age of 21 who have completed a minimum of Grade 7 or Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) level 4.

Both exam candidates applied for a rewrite to improve from their previous outcomes of the exam, possibly with plans of using these results to advance their lives either for work or study purposes.

In last year’s cohort, DBE witnessed a significant number of candidates obtain a pass in the gateway subjects.

According to the Education Department, this year’s examinations went smoothly with very few interruptions.
