The class of 2024 is left with less than 80 days before they sit for their National Senior Certificate final examinations. Recently, one of the nine provincial education departments held an event that primarily focused on the possible outcomes of learner and teacher performance.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed that this years’ National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric exams will run from 31 October 2024 until 07 December 2024.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala said the class of 2024 had achieved a 76.80% pass rate, which reflected a 0.58% decline when compared to the class of 2024.
In a recently held event, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has urged the current cohort of matric learners to focus on their studies and prepare for the upcoming examinations.
The event’s main purpose was to increase awareness among learners and teachers so that both groups would work hard to improve the performance of the province’s class of 2024.
In an interview, the DBE spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said:
There are three or four things that you have to get a 100%, it will not get to you but you have to work towards it.
Learners have been encouraged to take care of each other should one of them not be present for an exam and to also stay out of trouble.
A retired KZN educator, Vincentia Maduna advised the learners to substitute their TV for study time and to also listen to their teachers at all times.
As the learners are not left with much time before the final exams kick off, Mhlanga highlighted the important role of study groups and urged learners to utilise past exam papers when doing revision.
Kwazulu-Natal Education’s Head of Department Nkosinathi Ngcobo said the learners need to work hard as they are the future of the country.
